Lacan’s logical elucidation of feminine sexuality in relation to the object, the fantasy, the phallus and the symptom resolved the triangular oedipus opened up by Freud. In the wake of this Bracha Ettinger has proposed a matrixial dimension of subjectivity revolving around the matrix as pre-oedipal and proto-symbolic and working in relation to the phallic dimension. We will explore the implications of these developments for the clinic of psychoanalysis in Sex, Gender, and Desire.
