Published when Reich was only in his thirties, Character Analysis was hailed by Freud and the analytic community as a masterpiece innovating structure, diagnosis, and method. In the wake of Reich’s radical future research this important work has been lost. We will examine its current significance to analysis and psychiatry. We will examine the extensive case study on psychosis which Reich added to the revised version of the book based on his later work and how this influenced Deleuze & Guattari’s clinical innovations in Schizoanalysis.
