The psychoanalytic method of the proper name is the fulfillment of Freud’s original project on the singularity of the symptom and the politics of the patient as analysand and analyst developing his own cure while teaching and transmitting to the Other. As opposed to the re-institutionalization of analysis through psychiatry and academia, Lacan’s work on the Symptom and Guattari’s work on Schizoanalysis committed the clinic and school to this method of singularity where styles of analytic method (Freudian, Jungian, Reichian…) and diagnostic categories (psychosis, neurosis, perversion…) are replaced by the proper name: Joyce, Duras, Genet… We will discuss what this means for the future of analytic practice and training: How to do an analysis by writing the fantasy in the symptom – or Sinthome. How the analysand achieves authorization by authorship rather than authority – or Autopoesis.
